So, why does protein production play such a huge role in horrible environmental effects?

  • 1 8-ounce steak = 1.6 kg of feed + 3,515 L of water in a cow
  • 25% of earth is for farming livestock
  • 70% of all land is used for agriculture
  • The protein production industry takes up 30% of all freshwater
  • 80% of all antibiotics sold go to agriculture
  • Food poisoning comes from livestock
  • Agriculture = 14.5% of all anthropogenic greenhouse gases
  • Food Production = 1/4 of global warming WBO (world’s biggest problem)

So clearly, it’s not just cows emitting methane that causes this problem, or the livestock giving us e-coli. It’s a lot more than just CH4 and e-coli. To stop these, we’re going to have to leverage the emerging tools of the 21st century to solve our biggest problems.
