I got a new pet: Bob the Spider! You like him?

Yes, some wholesome spiders for you. I can personally say that I have no interesting putting anything that comes from a spider on my face…

But, there are companies that do. Bolt Threads and Spidey Tek. They love themselves some good 🕸.

But hey, after I learned a bit more about spider webs themselves, I realized that they’re pretty cool! They have some pretty interesting biological properties that make them awesome! So we all know that spider webs are basically silk, a protein fibre.

Oh and fine, my spider is male, and males typically don’t spin webs, but they can create silk, so it makes sense 😒.

Spider’s produce silk for a variety of reasons, from movement to snatching up prey. But by culturing spider silk from cells, we can actually get cell based cultured spider silk that has all of its properties. But then wait. What are the properties of spider silk? 👇🏾
